The Rexford, Mont., station of the Great Northern Railway was established in 1903. It was closed in 1972 when the railroad was rerouted due to the flooding of the area behind the Libby Dam. Incorporated in 1891 under the laws of the state of Nebraska, the company purposed to purchase and operate the former Pacific Short Line (sold under foreclosure that year), which consisted of a completed line from Covington to O'Neill (Neb.). The company defaulted on its bond interest and went into receivership (F.C. Hills, receiver) on 1 November 1893.
